Beijing is a well-known transportation hub in northern China with a well-developed transportation system. As an inland city, there are several methods of transportation from which to choose to get to Beijing: plane, train and long-distance bus. Beijing is home to some of the most stunning architectural wonders in the world. The Imperial residences and parks such as the Forbidden City and Summer Palace never fail to awe visitors with their grandeur and Scale, military fortifications such and the Great Wall and City Gates humble visitors with their sheer scale, the walled hutongs which have been home to Beijing residents for centuries never fail to surprise visitors with what lies around the next corner. Beijing is indeed an ideal place to visit all round the year.
Beijing is also a very cosmopolitan city with a very large foreign community (all the embassies and many of the major foreign companies and multinationals are located here). There is no shortage of cultural and entertainment activities, ranging from local punk bands to international operatic events. Beijing is also considering a regional pollution-prevention-and-control mechanism to clean up the air for the Olympics. This includes information sharing and feedback systems such as pollution source monitoring and discharge data reports, air monitoring data reports, air quality alarm reports, and air pollution prevention and reduction conferences in various cities and provinces.
Beijing is also famous for its snacks and street food such as lamb skewers (yang rou chuanr), purchased at any corner where vendors set up shop. Beijing is also the most developed educational base of China. There are also many libraries and a variety of museums offering citizens and tourists a marvellous opportunity to enjoy its history and culture. Beijing is the model for a distinctively Chinese development, and is a city that has undergone drastic changes over the past 20 years; an example for the rest of China to emulate. These changes continue to keep pace today, and present a wide range of opportunities for foreign investment.
Beijing is far from achieving the ability to challenge the United States in the Middle East, even in a limited capacity. Beijing is also pulling out the stops to land a Chinese astronaut on the moon by 2015. All these add up to a no-holds-barred power projection that is rare in China’s 5,000-year history.
